The Derby boot has its roots in Military footwear. Purported to derive from Prussian General  ‘Marshall Forward’ Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. Blücher was celebrated in England due to his pivotal role at the Battle of Waterloo and was said to have commissioned the now standard boot style as a matter of necessity for his soldiers. The style was widely adopted by armies across Europe and it is supposed that the ‘Derby’ was the anglicised version._x000D_

This particular civilian Derby boot style dates from  late 1920’s England onward. Made using classic Goodyear welted sole construction and in full calf leather with rubber Commando soles._x000D_

About Goodyear Welting ?  The process ensures a watertight seal between the upper’s concealed inner sole and the outer sole.  The cavity created between the upper sole and the outer sole contains a cork layer that, over time, moulds to your foot availing a more comfortable and personal fit. The process also enables the outer sole to be replaced or repaired. Many modern, cheaper, imported boots have bonded soles which are soles that are glued to the upper and when they are worn away, they are done for, thrown away.
